Norway rules about car seat belt use

The usage of safety seat belt when driving in Norway is mandatory for both, the drivers and the passengers (including the passengers on the back seats as well).
The fine is about NOK 1 500 for the driver and each one of the passengers not wearing the seat belt.

Exceptions from the mandatory use are allowed only in the following cases:
  • Medical reasons (you need to have an official medical certificate or another documents that prove you should not use seat belt)
  • Vehicles making frequent stops (as delivery vehicles, mail cars)
  • In case of reverse driving (when making a maneuver associated with running back)
  • In case of driving in non-public areas (as back yards, parkings, garages, etc.)
