Speed limits in France
There are standard speed limits in France (unless otherwise stated by traffic signs).

Speed limits for motorcycles and passenger cars (up to 3t)*:
in populated areas 50 km/h
outside populated areas 90 km/h
on a speedway 110 km/h
on a highway 130 km/h

Speed limits vehicles with trailers:
in populated areas 50 km/h
outside populated areas 90 km/h
on a speedway 100 km/h
on a highway 100 km/h

* In rainy weather, the speed limits is 80 km/h outside populated areas, 100 km/h on the speedway and 110 km/h on highway.

The movement on highway of vehicles with maximum allowed technical speed that does not exceeded 60 km/h is forbidden.

When visibility on the road is less than 50 meters the maximum speed should not exceed 50 km/h, regardless of the type of road and the vehicle categories.

Vehicles with studded tires, the maximum permissible speed have not exceeding 90 km/h.

On the motorway sections with more than two lanes in one direction, the vehicles with trailers are allowed to use only the two rightmost lanes, even for overtaking.

On the highways in France a large number of radars/speed cameras (about 4,000), for control of speed limits, are installed.

Good to know: Since May 11, 2011 the road signs warning of speed cameras is no longer used.
