There are standard speed limits in Bulgaria (unless otherwise stated by traffic signs).
Speed limits for motorcycles:
in populated areas | 50 km/h |
outside populated areas | 80 km/h |
on a speedway | 90 km/h |
on a highway | 100 km/h |
Speed limits for passenger cars (up to 3t):
in populated areas | 50 km/h |
outside populated areas | 90 km/h |
on a speedway | 120 km/h |
on a highway | 140 km/h |
Speed limits for vehicles with trailers:
in populated areas | 50 km/h |
outside populated areas | 80 km/h |
on a speedway | 90 km/h |
on a highway | 100 km/h |
The minimum allowed speed on the highway is 50 km/h.
The maximum permissible speed of movement for vehicles equipped with snow chains is 50 km/h.
The maximum permitted speed in the residential area is 20 km/h.
When towing the maximum permissible speed is 40 km/h.
In case of towing with rigid on a highway, the maximum permissible speed is 70 km/h.
The maximum permissible speed for vehicles carrying dangerous goods is 40 km/h (in populated areas), 50 km/h (outside populated areas), and 90 km/h on a highway.
