Toll rates and taxes in Slovakia 2026 Slovakia
Last update: January 2026
Slovakia operates a fully **electronic vignette system** for its motorways and expressways. For 2026, the system remains highly user-friendly, continuing the popular 1-day vignette—a perfect option for transit travelers.
Electronic Vignette Prices for 2026
These rates apply to two-track vehicles up to **3.5 tonnes** (passenger cars, vans, and motorhomes). Note that motorcycles are **exempt** from vignette requirements in Slovakia.
| Vignette Type | Validity | Price (2026) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **1-Day** | Until 24:00 of the chosen day | **€8.10** |
| **10-Day** | 10 consecutive days | **€10.80** |
| **30-Day** | 30 consecutive days | **€17.10** |
| **365-Day** | 365 days from the chosen date | **€90.00** |
Important for Trailers: If the total weight of the vehicle and trailer combination exceeds 3.5 tonnes, you must purchase a second vignette specifically for the trailer at the same price as the vehicle vignette.
Where and How to Buy?
There is no need for physical stickers on your windshield. The system is entirely digital and linked to your license plate.
1. Official Website: The most secure method is via [eznamka.sk](https://eznamka.sk) (available in English).
2. Mobile App: The "eznamka" app allows for quick purchases and easy validity checks.
3. Physical Points: You can buy vignettes at most gas stations or self-service terminals at border crossings (look for the "eznámka" logo).
Free Highway Sections (New!)
Since late 2024 and continuing through 2026, several motorway sections—primarily bypasses around major cities—are **toll-free**. This initiative aims to reduce urban congestion. Toll-free bypasses include:
* **Bratislava**
* **Košice**
* **Prešov**
* **Žilina**
* **Nitra**
* **Banská Bystrica**
Always look for road signs; sections requiring a vignette are marked with "s úhradou", while free sections are marked "bez úhrady".
Heavy Vehicles (Over 3.5 Tonnes)
Trucks and large buses do not use the vignette system. Instead, they utilize the "MYTO" distance-based electronic toll system, which requires an on-board unit (OBU). Fees are calculated based on the distance traveled, vehicle category, number of axles, and emission class (EURO).
Fines and Enforcement
Slovakia uses a sophisticated network of static cameras and mobile patrols to verify license plates against the central database
- Fine Amount: Usually around €150, though it may be reduced to €100 if paid within 15 days.
- Pro-Tip:* Double-check your license plate entry during purchase. A single typo (e.g., mistaking the letter "O" for the number "0") can lead to an invalid vignette and a fine.
