Poland features a modern but complex road network. While many highways are free for passenger cars, professional drivers and those with heavy vehicles must navigate the e-TOLL system, which has seen significant price hikes and network expansions this year.

Passenger Cars and Motorcycles (Up to 3.5 Tons)
As of early 2026, most state-owned motorways (managed by GDDKiA) remain completely free for light vehicles. However, tolls are still collected on sections managed by private concessionaires.

Where You Must Pay (Private Sections):
A1 (Gdańsk – Toruń): Fees are paid at toll booths (cash/card) or automatically via the AmberGo app.
A2 (Świecko – Konin): This is one of the most expensive stretches. Payment is made at booths.
A4 (Katowice – Kraków): Payment at booths or automatically via **Autopay** or A4Go.

Note: The state-owned sections of A2 (Konin – Stryków) and A4 (Wrocław – Gliwice), which used to be paid, remain free for cars in 2026.

Heavy Goods Vehicles and Buses (Over 3.5 Tons)
Major Update: On **February 1, 2026, Poland expanded its tolled network by approximately 645 km. Simultaneously, toll rates increased by roughly 40% to account for inflation and infrastructure maintenance.

All vehicles over 3.5 tons, buses (regardless of weight), and cars with trailers (if the combined weight exceeds 3.5t) must use the e-TOLL system.

How to Pay
1. For Passenger Cars: Use cash (PLN, EUR, USD), cards, or mobile apps like Autopay, SkyCash, and AmberGo depending on the motorway section.
2. For e-TOLL Users: You must register at [etoll.gov.pl](https://etoll.gov.pl). You can use a **Prepaid account** (top up in advance) or a **Postpaid account** (requires a financial guarantee/deposit).

Fines and Enforcement
Enforcement is strict and automated via ANPR cameras and mobile Road Transport Inspection (ITD) units.

Driving without registration/payment: Fines for carriers up to 1,500 PLN (~€350).
Incorrect vehicle data (wrong weight/EURO class): Fines around 750 PLN.
