Speed limits in Norway

There are standard speed limits in Norway (unless otherwise stated by traffic signs):

Speed limits for motorcycles and passenger cars (up to 3t):
in populated areas 50 km/h
outside populated areas 80 km/h
on a highway 100 km/h

Speed limits for passenger cars & vans with trailers, buses and heavy goods vehicles
in populated areas 50 km/h
outside populated areas 80 km/h
on a highway 80 km/h

There are 8 new road sections in Norway, where the maximum allowed speed of driving is 110 km/h.:
  • E18 Kopstad — Gulli
  • E18 Langåker — Bommestad
  • E18 Sky — Langgangen
  • E18 Gulli — Langåker
  • E18 Eik — Kopstad
  • E6 Ås — Mosseporten
  • E6 Årvoll v/Moss — Solli nord
  • E6 Årum v/Sarpsborg — toll station v/Svinesund
  • The length of each of these sections is about 80 km. The maximum permissible speed of driving can be reduced in bad weather conditions (as heavy rain, snow, ice).

The maximum allowed speed of driving, in residential areas, is no more than 30 km/h.

You need to pay a special attention to the "humps on the road" that usually placed before the pedestrian crossing.
