Toll rates and taxes in Ireland 2026 Ireland

Last update: January 2026

Ireland has no national vignette (sticker) for passenger cars – toll fees are paid only for specific tolled sections: motorways, tunnels, and bridges. Most have barriers, but the M50 around Dublin operates with a barrier-free electronic system (eFlow) – cameras read the number plate and the toll must be paid online by 20:00 the next day.

From January 1, 2026, prices have been indexed with 2% inflation (CPI August 2024–2025).

Main changes:
- M50: +€0.10 for almost all registered users (tag/video), no increase for unregistered cars.
- Dublin Port Tunnel: +€1 (from €13 to €14) southbound in morning peak hours (Monday–Friday 06:00–10:00) – to preserve capacity for trucks (HGVs and buses are exempt from tolls in the tunnel).
- Most PPP motorways: no change for cars, only +€0.10 on M4 (Kilcock–Kinnegad) and M3 (Clonee–Kells).

Payment Methods
- eFlow / eToll tag – cheapest and fastest (automatically deducted from account, discounts for frequent users).
- Video account – register your number plate online, more expensive than tag.
- Unregistered – pay online by 8 pm the next day (most expensive).
- On-site: card, cash (at some barriers).
- For rental cars: the toll + administrative fee is automatically added by the company.

Useful Tips for Bulgarian Drivers
- If traveling to Ireland by plane + rental car – avoid the M50 during peak hours (morning/evening in Dublin), as the fine for unpaid toll is up to €200 + fees.
- Register in advance on eflow.ie – save €0.60–1.20 per passage.
- No vignette for the whole country – you pay only for the specific roads used.
- Check your route with Google Maps or ViaMichelin – they display toll fees.
- Fines are sent by mail (even to Bulgaria) – better to pay immediately online.
